    "Cooking with Nettles" was a workshop led by artist and cook Maia Magoga and Thamemsead Social Gardens to learn how to make pasta from scratch - but with a twist!

    Together we used a common yet overlooked weed that grows all over Bexley - Nettle* - to make our pasta dough, before cooking, eating, and sharing wild recipes together. 

    This was the third event for beneath the pavement, the marshes, a new creative programme bringing artists, activists and ecologists together with local environmental and community groups working in north Bexley, to explore the ground beneath our feet.⁠

    Maia Magoga

    Maia Magoga is an artist and cook who works primarily with food as both subject and object. She’s interested in the social and ecological dimensions of food; the ways in which it connects communities while also shaping the landscapes around us. She considers food to be her love language: a ritual tool for sharing magic and a space for collective healing. 

    Thamesmead Social Gardens

    Joseph and Anne oversee the programme, engagement and management of two community gardens, utilising co-production to test forms of participation and governance to ensure long term community stewardship.
