Furrowing for Fungi with Rights for Weeds

Saturday 4 November 2023, 11:00 - 13:00 GMT
Lesnes Abbey Lodge, New Road, London SE2 0AX

Join us for a workshop and walk in Bexley's ancient woodland with foraging teacher Izzy from Rights For Weeds and volunteer group, Friends of Lesnes Abbey and Woods, where you'll learn to identify the plants, trees and fungi that grow in woods, before cooking and sharing some food.

Along the walk we'll also hear about different ways we can give voice to the often voiceless more-than-human life that live alongside us in our ecosystems, using stories inspired by history, botany, mycology, folklore, and our own experiences of the world.

There will be plenty of room for general plant and fungi chat so please come with whatever thoughts, opinions and questions you have.

This event is Free & everyone is welcome- but booking is essential.

Under-18s should be accompanied by a responsible adult.

The workshop is not fully accessible for people with different mobilities. The terrain is mainly flat, but there will be some stony ground, small inclines, and uneven grasslands. The Woods can also be muddy after rain so please come prepared for being outside with comfortable walking shoes, a waterproof and an extra layer. Please bring folding chairs, walking canes and anything else that you need to feel comfortable in the woods.

Furrowing for Fungi is part of Beneath The Pavement, The Marshes, a new creative programme developed by Three Rivers that brings artists, activists and ecologists together with local environmental and community groups working in north Bexley, to explore the ground beneath our feet.
